Market, livestock sheds set up in South Waziristan

PESHAWAR:

The Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) of the United Nations inaugurated on Sunday a fruit, vegetable and livestock market sheds in South Waziristan. The project was financially supported by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). Additional Deputy Commissioner of District SW, local district administration, FAO officials and local farmers, traders’ community participated in the launch event. Gregory Macris, US Consul General in Peshawar, and Waleed Mahdi, International Coordinator, FAO, K-P through video messages appreciated the strong partnership between the provincial government, FAO, USAID and the local communities.

This intervention is part of a restoration process and establishment of new market infrastructure and enterprise development services under which 13 cluster-based packing sheds, five fruit and vegetable auction sheds and three livestock markets will be established in the merged tribal districts of South Waziristan. North Waziristan and Khyber. So far in SW, five market structures including a livestock market, two fruit and vegetable packing shed and a couple of fruit and vegetable auction sheds have been completed.
