ABBOTTABAD:

Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Assembly Speaker and Abbottabad native Mushtaq Ahmed Ghani on Sunday promised that the provincial government will take strict action against those who are found guilty for causing nine people, including a decorated former sportsman, to lose their eyesight at the Ayub Medical Complex (AMC) a few months ago.

He said this while distributing cheques worth Rs9 million amongst the victims at the deputy commissioner (DC) office in Abbottabad on Sunday.

"We have fulfilled our promise by providing relief to those who lost their eyesight during treatment at the AMC couple a months ago and after receiving the second lab report,” Ghani said.

He added that if doctors, paramedical staff or the pharmaceutical company is found guilty, then they will be dealt with iron hands to provide justice.

The speaker disclosed that initial investigations suggest that the doctors did not follow the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) while treating the eye of patients which caused damage to the nine people, adding that as soon as he receives the investigation report, he will submit it to the K-P Chief Minister Mahmood Khan and to Prime Minister Imran Khan to bring the accused before a court of law and provide justice to the affected people.

Ghani further said that in the past, no proper medical system was working for the people in the province. However, the ruling party had introduced the Medical Teaching Institute (MTI) system which independently worked on a one-line budget while a system was implemented in all medical teaching institutes of the province to provide better medical facilities to the public.

He added that it was the responsibility of doctors to follow suggestions of the Board of Governors (BoG) and MTI.
