A local court issued non-bailable arrest warrants for the Civil Lines SHO and four other police officials on Friday in a case pertaining to alleged police brutality. The South judicial magistrate heard the case about the abduction of a citizen and his subsequent beating in lockup. The petitioner’s counsel, Jalil Khan Marwat, maintained that Gul Bahadur was abducted on July 22 and beaten by the police in the lockup. The cops released him a day later after collecting Rs100,000, according to the counsel. After Bahadur approached the court to register a case against the errant cops, the police meted out the same treatment to his nephew. The court had directed the police to conduct an inquiry and submit a report but the South SSP did not do so. The court issued warrants for the accused police officialsand directed the South SSP to arrest and produce the accused before the court on September 28.
