Punjab Minister for Women Development Ashifa Riaz Fatyana has said that measures are being taken to end sexual harassment in society through proper policy-making, effective legislation and implementation of a legal framework by the provincial government.
The minister was addressing a meeting arranged by the office of the ombudsman Punjab and UN Women, at a local hotel on Thursday.
She said that gender discriminative behaviour could be eliminated from the society by giving proper education and behavioral training to citizens at the grass-roots level.
“We have recently launched a framework to implement the existing laws against harassment at workplaces to protect working women in the real sense,” the minister added.
“All women should be strong and confident to play a strong and active role for the development of the country,” the women development minister stressed. She asked the educated males to create awareness in their communities regarding the rights of women to strike a balance in the society.
Martial art training would be provided to all girls starting from primary level in all the educational institutions to enable them to defend themselves, the minister further stated. Punjab Women Development Department Secretary Ambreen Raza underscored that the departments must consolidate reporting systems to end sexual harassment at workplaces.
