Railways modernisation: Projects underway to upgrade services

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Railways is working on various rehabilitation and modernisation projects. An official of Pakistan Railways said that except for a 90-kilometre section of the Okara-Raiwind track, track dualisation work between Khanewal and Raiwind has been completed, adding that the project would be completed this year.  He said that rehabilitation work on the Lahore- Rawalpindi-Peshawar track would start with the help of the Asian Development Bank during the current fiscal year. Track realignment between Kaluwal and Pindora on the Jhelum-Rawalpindi section was likely to start soon. Computerised online reservation system has been introduced on the Pakistan Railway system and so for, 42 stations have been computerized while 10 more stations are queued for upgrade next year.
