QPC golden jubilee celebrations in full swing

The celebration of the Quetta Press Club’s golden jubilee began earlier this week and will continue till the end of this month.

Former Federal Minister and Senator from Balochistan Ms Khursheed Roshan Baroocha, president QPC Raza ur Rehman and other veteran journalists expressed their views while addressing the golden jubilee celebrations.

“Balochistan is said to be the worst affected province of Pakistan in terms of safety of journalists. The journalists in Balochistan face a lot of pressure, attacks, abduction and are even murdered,” they said.

“In Balochistan, Journalism has been a challenge. Starting with print and then including radio and television broadcasts, journalism was almost always tested by those who felt journalists were challenging certain narratives through their work.”

They added that Balochistan is known to be the most dangerous place for journalists to report. Many journalists in Khuzdar, Kalat, Kech, Gawadar and Panjgur have been killed and subjected to atrocities for performing their job in those areas. Media persons are considered the voice of every section of society.

“Journalism is one of the most unsafe professions in Balochistan and the quarters which pose threats to journalists include militant and religious outfits, separatist groups, ethnic political parties, mainstream political parties, criminal gangs, tribal elders and feudal lords,” they further said.

On the other hand, earlier a debate competition was also arranged in Quetta Press Club where students of different schools of Quetta contested.

President QPC and Senator Barocha also distributed gifts among the winners.
