KARACHI:

People will now be able to find out the number of vehicles registered in their name through a new SMS service, announced Sindh Excise and Taxation Minister Mukesh Kumar Chawla on Sunday. This information can be received by sending the relevant CNIC number to 8147 via SMS, he explained. “The service aims to discourage vehicle theft, unlawful use and other crimes,” the minister elaborated, adding that the facility had already been available on the Sindh Excise Department’s website and now it had been made available on text messages. According to him, the facility would not only save citizens’ time and money but also reduce pressure on the excise department’s offices.
