172 beggars nabbed in two weeks

Police, social welfare department, and child protection and welfare bureau taking actions

Lahore Police Operations Wing claimed to have arrested at least 172 beggars during the last two weeks. Cases were registered against them in various police stations of the city. As many as 76 cases were registered in Civil Lines, 41 in Model Town, 18 in Cantonment Division, 17 in Sadar Division, 15 in Iqbal Town, and five in City Division. The arrested individuals included 92 women and two transgender persons. DIG Operations Ashfaq Ahmad Khan asked the divisional SPs to accelerate action against the beggar mafia in their areas. He highlighted that joint teams of police, social welfare department, and child protection and welfare bureau were taking action as per law. He further said that indiscriminate action against people using children in begging was also being taken.
