Police say the victim had disallowed suspect to marry a second time

A man allegedly poisoned his wife to death following a dispute over granting him permission for second marriage in Drahma Police Station limits on Thursday.

Upon receiving the information, a Drahma police team reached the spot and shifted the body of the victim to the Teaching Hospital for post-mortem examination.

Reportedly, the mother of five children had refused to allow her husband, Muhammad Rafiq, to marry another woman.

Police said the couple had been married for the past 17 years.

Punjab police resume training courses

The police have initiated an investigation into the case and are conducting raids to arrest the suspects.

Abdul Majeed, the father of the woman identified as Shakeela Mai, said the victim was tortured by her husband every day for refusing to allow him to marry again.

He alleged that his son-in-law, a resident of Chah Roheely Wala, in connivance with his mother and brother, poisoned Shakeela Mai.

The claim was backed by Mohammad Amir, Zafar Iqbal, Mohammad Shafi and other residents of Mouza Dahir Opla.
