Court remands accused rapist

Faisal allegedly raped a woman with an intellectual disability repeatedly in Ittehad Town

A local court handed over a man accused of repeatedly raping a woman with an intellectual disability for three-day physical remand on Wednesday.

The West judicial magistrate heard the case pertaining to the rape of the woman in Ittehad Town at the Karachi city court.

The police produced accused Faisal before the court, which granted a three-day physical remand. The court also directed the police to arrest the other accused in the case, Abdul Hameed, who is on the run, and produce him before the court. The police were further directed to submit the DNA report at the next hearing.

According to the police, the woman's brother-in-law filed a complaint, stating that the accused had been raping the woman for several days.

Meanwhile, Faisal reportedly claimed he was innocent, adding that Hameed, who worked at his showroom, had raped her.

Sentenced to death

Separately, the East additional district and sessions judge convicted a man, Khalid Zafar, in two murder cases, awarding him the death penalty twice.

The court also directed the convict to pay a fine of Rs500,000 to the families of the deceased.

According to prosecutor Ashraf Bhatti, Zafar had killed several people while carrying out robberies in Gulshan-e-Iqbal and other areas.

The convict killed Shamsuzzaman and Muhammad Sajid at Al Badr Medical Store and, in March 2004, he killed a man named Ayaz at Bopi Medical Store, said the prosecutor.
