Apartment fire leaves couple injured

A couple suffered severe burn injuries when a fire broke out in their apartment in Garden on Monday night. The injured, identified as Raheel Javed, 25, and Asma, 22, were rushed to Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital’s burns ward, where doctors said Javed had sustained 70 per cent burns to his body, while Asma, who is also pregnant, had been completely burnt and was in critical condition. Their family told police an internet device in their room gave off sparks, resulting in a fire, which soon spread of engulf the split air conditioner in the room. The air conditioner unit exploded, intensifying the fire and consequently, the couple, who were asleep, sustained burn injuries, the family said, though, refusing to pursue any legal proceeding. However, police have launched an investigation in the matter.
