The Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) arrested on Tuesday an excise constable, Abdul Hameed, claiming he was caught red-handed while collecting a bribe.

ACE Ghotki circle officer Aijaz Hussain Memon, along with first judicial magistrate Wajid Ali Dayo, made the arrest and registered a case against Hameed.

According to an ACE spokesperson, the department's Sukkur Zone had received a complaint accusing Hameed and Manzoor Ahmed Kalhoro of demanding Rs1.2 million in bribe in exchange for posting the complainant in the Sindh irrigation department. According to the complainant, Hameed and Kalhoro have already taken RS200,000 from him and are demanding another Rs100,000 on account of medical test.

The spokesperson said Hameed was caught red-handed while taking the Rs100,000 bribe from the complainant.

Separately, Sindh Industries and Anti-Corruption Minister Ikramullah Dharejo appealed to people to not get defrauded under the pretext of acquiring a government job, saying that all government jobs are given on the basis of merit. He urged citizens to inform ACE about those demanding bribes so that strict action can be taken against them.

"The elimination of such corrupt elements is only possible with the help of citizens," he remarked.
