A man, along with his friend, allegedly strangled his wife to death in a house in Muslim Colony on Monday night and fled, taking with him his infant daughter.

Bashir Ahmed, deceased 23-year-old Saba's father, told police his son-in-law, Sikandar Imrani, along with his friend, Saim, strangled his daughter to death with a stole and took away his seven-month-old granddaughter, Mauripur Police Station SHO Ghaffar Shah said. He added that Saba married Imrani four years ago and had moved back to her parents' house, located in the same neighbourhood as her husband's house, after she had a fight with him.

Police have collected evidence, launched an investigation into the matter and are trying to trace Imrani and Saim, the SHO said.

Earlier, police shifted the body to Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital.
