ARIFWALA:

The Election Commission has made preparations for local body elections in Arifwala where the number of union councils in the municipal committee has increased from four to 12 due to rising population of adjoining villages.

As the local body elections near, all the political parties have also started preparations to field their strongest candidates. The Member of Punjab Assembly from Arifwala is from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and the MNA from Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N). However, MPA Chaudhry Naeem Ibrahim has a lot of influence in the area as he is in the ruling party. A tough contest is expected between the PML-N and PTI in the area. However, the PML-N may face difficulties because of the absence from its ranks of former provincial minister Dr Farrukh Javed.
