RAWALPINDI:

Some 322 private housing schemes in Rawalpindi district are operating illegally without fearing any action of the civic bodies or administration, The Express Tribune learnt on Friday.

Only 64 private housing projects in the Rawalpindi district have been declared legal while the remaining are functioning unlawfully.

The district administration and Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) have failed to take any action against them.

Sources said that the civic authorities were instead treating the managements of such housing schemes in a friendly manner. The people who had invested millions of rupees in these projects are worried as their investments are at a risk.

The other projects include some 58 in Murree, nine in Gujjar Khan, 29 in Taxila, and three in Kotli Sattiyan.

Only 55 housing projects in Rawalpindi Tehsil have been declared legal, sources told.

Despite their illegal status, the offices of all these projects are operating routinely and the sale and purchase activities are in full swing.
