RAWALPINDI:

The top traffic police officer of the province has taken notice of Rawalpindi police changing the colour of official vehicles, stating that the province was unaware of directing any such change.

The Rawalpindi City Traffic Police (CTP) had decided to repaint its double-cabin squad vehicles, which were previously painted drab olive or white, as silver. Similarly, it had decided to repaint its motorbikes, which were previously painted white, as black. When contacted, Punjab Traffic AIG Shehzad Sultan said that no decision had been made at the province level to change the colour of their vehicles.

Surprisingly, he further said that they were not even aware such a move has been undertaken in Rawalpindi as neither anyone sent them advance notice about it nor did they seek permission to do so.

He further clarified that there was a central, uniform policy for traffic police in each district and that there was no district-specific policy which differed from this uniform policy nor was this policy being altered.

The AIG said that they will seek an explanation over this matter from the Rawalpindi chief traffic officer.

Meanwhile, officers in the Rawalpindi traffic police department believed that by changing the colours such as their vehicles would stand out in the crowd.

However, some officers said there was a greater need to ensure that inoperative vehicles of the force are repaired and made operational to enhance their efficiency.
