LAHORE:

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has challenged the recent transfers and appointments of top officers of Punjab Police, claiming that the provincial government has failed to implement the Police Order 2002.

The petitioner, PML-N lawmaker Malik Muhammad Ahmed, alleged that the Punjab government had politicised the police of the province. He filed a writ petition challenging the federal government’s decision of removing former IGP Shoaib Dastgir from the post of provincial police chief and appointing Inam Ghani in his place. He also challenged the appointment of Lahore CCPO Umar Sheikh.

The government had changed five IGPs in two years and the average tenure of the IGP had been four months, the petitioner stated.
