A seventy-year-old lawyer Muhammad Yaqub who is on a hunger strike against the occupation of his property in Quetta has appealed to the Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Gulzar Ahmed and Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa to dispense justice to him.
It is pertinent to mention that he has been on a hunger strike for 19 consecutive days in the bar room of the Balochistan High Court.
According to a senior lawyer, no clear action is being taken by the high court against the land mafia. "Construction is being carried out by the land mafia despite court orders," he said.
Yaqub lashed out at the police for not helping him and remaining a silent spectator instead.
"The Balochistan High Court and two civil courts have canceled 60,000 transfers but still construction is being carried out by the land mafia. Officials of the Balochistan Bar Council and the Balochistan Bar Association are being pressured to not solve my problems.”
He alleged that more than 100,000 feet of land in the Nawan Kili area of Quetta had been occupied by influential people including a man currently imprisoned in Pishin Jail. “Police officers have made deals with the land mafia occupying my land.”
The elderly lawyer says his health is being affected by the hunger strike. "Despite the deteriorating health situation, no attention is being paid by the administration. I am forced to write a letter to the Supreme Court demanding that my lands be relinquished from the possession of the land mafia," Yaqub added.
