Rescue workers hand over body to police

A woman threw a newborn baby into a canal, where he drowned.

Rescue 1122 personnel reached the spot on the report of passers-by, pulled out the body from the canal and handed it over to police.

The unidentified woman fled after throwing the newborn baby into the canal near Pul-e-Abdullah, Samundri Road in D-Type Colony. Passers-by spotted the baby drowning and alerted Rescue 1122 staff, who reached the spot and pulled out the body.

A large number of local people gathered around the canal to witness the rescue operation. Police shifted the body to Allied Hospital and started efforts to trace the woman.

This is not the only incident in which a minor was thrown into a canal by a relative in Punjab.

On February 15, a six-year-old boy’s body was retrieved from a canal by Rescue 1122 workers in Chichawatni. The body was shifted to a hospital.

Reportedly, the child was thrown into the canal by his paternal uncle and the accused had been arrested.

The minor, identified as Ahsan, was a resident of Ada Gambhir, in Yousufwala. He was thrown into the canal by his uncle while he was playing with him. The body was found floating towards the Commerce College.
