LAHORE:

A three-member bench led by Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Gulzar Ahmed restrained the Faisalabad Agriculture University (UAF) vice chancellor from rendering his services after suspending the Lahore High Court’s (LHC) order wherein he was allowed to retain his post.

The country’s top judge was hearing Dr Iqrar Ahmad’s petition in Supreme Court Lahore Registry against the decision of LHC’s division bench wherein respondent Faisalabad Agriculture University Vice Chancellor Dr Muhammad Ashraf had been restored on his position.

The CJP also directed the pro-vice chancellor of the university to run its routine matters until the final decision on the petitioner’s appeal.

The petitioner’s lawyer implored the court that the present vice chancellor’s appointment was not made in accordance with the mechanism devised by the Supreme Court of Pakistan. He submitted that the search committee recommended the petitioner as suitable candidate for the post of vice chancellor.
