Fearing homeless after the launch of an anti-encroachment drive at Gujjar nullah, residents staged a protest on the second consecutive day on Saturday.
Exasperated and frustrated, the protesters did not let district administration teams carry out a survey to mark illegal structures around Gujjar nullah in FC Area on the day. Women and children among them blocked the road leading to Sakhi Hassan Chowrangi.
They said they were protesting for their rights and moved the Prime Minister and Sindh Chief Minister to bar relevant authorities from razing their dwellings.
The PM promised houses, but the authorities are demolishing them, they decried. In other countries, governments provide housing, but in Pakistan, the government is depriving people of shelter, they added. Claiming they had been living near Gujjar nullah for 50 years, they said the land was allotted to them by the authorities.
