LAHORE:

An application seeking interim bail of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) Member National Assembly (MNA) Barjees Tahir has been fixed for hearing in the Lahore High Court (LHC) on September 8.

A division bench of the LHC comprising Justice Sardar Ahmed Naeem and Justice Farooq Haider will hear the plea.

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) chairman, its director general and others had been named as parties in the application.

The NAB chairman had approved an inquiry into assets beyond means against the petitioner on February 22, 2020, while its counsel had sought time for the report and comments.

Tahir, also a former federal minister, said in his petition that the NAB had already closed the impugned inquiry against him in 2003.

However, he said, the bureau again issued him a call-up notice in July 2019 to appear in the same inquiry.

He said the NAB unlawfully converted a complaint into an investigation against him and there were apprehensions of his arrest.

The petitioner said that the national graft buster had summoned him in a case, which had never been initiated.

He said that he was an advocate of impartial and transparent accountability but the dispensation of justice must be visible.

The petitioner requested the court to approve his application for pre-arrest bail.
