Dewatering pumps have been provided for the removal of rainwater from different parts of Karachi, said Sindh Rehabilitation Minister Faraz Dero on Sunday, as the port city continues to struggle with rain and flooding.
Providing details, the minister claimed that six dewatering pumps, including one mobile pump, had been provided for Central district, five dewatering pumps, also including one mobile pump, for West district and a mobile dewatering pump for Korangi and Malir districts each, keeping in view the expected rainfall over the coming few days.
The minister said the drainage of rainwater in the metropolis was being monitored by the Provincial Disaster Management Authority chairperson, and the body was being assisted by district administrations for the purpose, as and when needed.
Speaking about relief measures in flood-affected areas of Sindh, Dero said ration bags and other goods were being provided to flood victims in Dadu, Qambar-Shahdadkot and the rural areas of Johi taluka, as per the directives of the Sindh government.
He elaborated that 1,100 ration bags were supplied to the Dadu district administration, while 14,450 ration bags, besides tents, mosquito nets, water coolers, mineral water bottles and other goods, were supplied to flood-affected citizens in Johi and 400 tents, along with ration bags and other items, were supplied to the Qambar-Shahdadkot district administration.
