Shoaib says his brother was an 'addict of the online game'

Players Unknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG), the popular online game, on Sunday reportedly claimed the life of another teenager in Lahore.

According to police, the young boy aged 16 belonging to the Ichhra neighbourhood, committed suicide after being stopped by the family from playing the 'addictive' online game.

The latest incident of suicide was followed by two deaths of young boys in the Punjab’s capital earlier in June, where a 20-year-old took his own life in Saddar Bazaar area in North Cantonment and a 16-year-old claimed his own life in Gulshan-e-Abbas Phase 2 neighbourhood.

Shehryar’s brother Shoaib told investigators that they belong to Quetta and his brother was an addict of the online game.

On June 1, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) had banned PUBG, citing several complaints about it being "addictive", a waste of time and its potential negative impact on children's physical and psychological health.

However, following meeting with the company’s representative last month the PTA had decided to lift the ban on PUBG.

"Keeping in view the positive engagement and response of the company, the PTA has decided to unban PUBG," the official statement had said.
