Two suspected criminals were killed while a policeman and two passersby were injured in an encounter in East district on Saturday.
The police claimed that the encounter took place when the suspects barged into a scrap shop in Ali Town to loot it. They added that the robbers opened fire when the shopkeeper resisted them, injuring the latter’s nephew.
Hearing the gunshots, police personnel patrolling the area arrived and tried to arrest the suspects, but the suspects shot at them and tried to flee the scene, leaving a policeman, Nabi Bakhsh, injured. The law enforcers returned fire, killing two of the suspects while one of their accomplices managed to escape. A passerby was also injured in the crossfire.
According to SHO Haroon Korai, the bodies were shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for medico-legal formalities and later taken to the morgue.
