ISLAMABAD:

The Islamabad police have decided to approach the interior ministry for placing the names of suspects involved in land grabbing in the federal capital on the Exit Control List (ECL), sources told The Express Tribune on Wednesday.

Officers of respective police stations have sent record of progress in all cases of land grabbing to their seniors for submitting before Islamabad IGP.

Sources added that IGP Amir Zulfiqar has directed the Operations DIG Waqaruddin Syed to take all measures for controlling the land mafia network in the capital territory. He has also instructed ruling out any sort of leniency to the suspects nominated in land grabbing cases with directions to arrest them at the earliest.

IGP, according to sources, said that the Investigation Officers (IOs) in encroachment cases must also expedite the process and ensure that no legal discrepancy is left that could benefit the offenders in the courts.

IGP added that arrangements should be done and related authorities must be approached to list the names of land mafia on the ECL to eliminate the odds of them fleeing abroad.

Sources said that the numerous cases against suspects have been registered in different police stations of Rural Zone. The suspects have been charged with encroaching lands owned by the people in Phase VII and VIII of Ghauri Town.

The Islamabad police chief has summoned investigation reports of six cases registered against the suspects wanted in land grabbing cases in the remits of Koral police station. IGP Zulfiqar also sought a report on inaction on over a dozen first information reports (FIRs) registered against the encroachers.

Earlier, the Prime Minister Imran Khan had taken notice of plethora of land grabbing complaints in Ghauri Town after which some four officials of Islamabad administration and Capital Development Authority (CDA) had been removed from their seats.

Meanwhile, Sihala police have forwarded its report of cases against suspects involved in land grabbing in Gulberg Green. The report has confirmed booking of five suspects nominated in the FIR, sources told The Express Tribune.

Further, Koral Police have also formulated its report stating the number of arrested suspects in seven cases of land grabbing. Golra, Tarnol and Barakhu police have also sent reports of 10 cases against the offence committed in their respective jurisdictions.

Interestingly, sources informed The Express Tribune that a powerful land grabber has managed to get his name excluded from the fourth-schedule list. He was wanted by the Islamabad police and nominated in several cases of land grabbing in Ghauri Town.

Moreover, Rural SP Amjad Farooq spoke with The Express Tribune on the matter too. He said that the action against the land mafia was under way. On a question regarding inaction over a dozen FIRs, the police officer said that the police were regularly receiving complaints against land mafia in Ghauri Town and asserted that they were taking action on them. On a question regarding ECL, the SP said that it was discretion of the jurisdiction’s police to get name of a suspect enlisted in the ECL.
