The Rawalpindi Cantonment Board (RCB) has completed the construction of a parking lot in the Saddar area that can accommodate over 1,000 vehicles.
RCB has also initiated the process to award contract for collecting fees at these parking lots, officials told The Expesss Tribune on Monday.
People visiting the markets in Saddar, Bank Road, Haider Road, Kashmir Road, Adamjee Road, Hospital Road, and Messi Gate would no longer search for parking spaces in the busy markets.
The parking lots have entry and exit gates while saplings have been planted in pots to make the surroundings attractive and beautiful.
Further, the board is also mulling to build another parking plaza having the same capacity to resolve the parking issue in the crowded bazaars in other commercial areas of the garrison city.
The contractors would be responsible for the safety of the vehicles inside the lots while it would also eliminate incidents of spare parts’ theft or damages to the vehicles.
RCB had begun work on constructing two car parks in Saddar, the commercial hub of the cantonment, in May.
One site is 31 The Mall, between The Mall and Haider Road in front of Ciros Cinema, and the second is between Haider Road and Bank Road adjacent to the Metro Bus Command and Control Centre.
