Punjab CM irked over heaps of garbage in Lahore

Directs LWMC MD to monitor cleanliness operation personally

Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar paid a surprise visit to different areas of provincial metropolis on Saturday and expressed displeasure of poor sanitation arrangements in some areas.

The chief minister reprimanded the Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) Managing Director Muhammad Aslam Rao over the poor performance of the department. He directed the LWMC management to improve sanitation arrangements in the city. The CM said heaps of garbage should immediately be lifted from the city streets.

“There will be no compromise on the sanitation arrangements and cleanliness conditions,” the chief minister warned.

He said the LWMC managing director should personally monitor this operation and submit the report to the Chief Minister Office. Buzdar further directed the to start a special cleaning campaign in the city and warned officials concerned that action will be taken against officers responsible in case of any complaint, he added.

The chief minister inspected civic facilities and sanitation arrangements on the Mall Road, Jail Road, Gulberg, Canal Road, Circular Road, Bhati Chowk, Ferozepur Road, Garden Town and other areas of the city.

Annually, millions of rupees are spent on washing and mechanical sweeping of the roads and lifting garbage from the city.
