A policeman was gunned down by unidentified armed men on a motorcycle near Karimabad flyover on Thursday night.
The deceased, identified as 45-year-old constable Muhammad Ali, was on his way to the Azizabad traffic police checkpost, where he was deployed, when the incident took place. As a result, Ali sustained two bullet wounds in the chest.
He was rushed to a nearby private hospital in a rickshaw but succumbed to his injuries. Upon arrival at the hospital, doctors confirmed his death. The body was then shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities.
Since the incident, Ali's weapon and phone have been missing, while police personnel continued the search for bullet shells at the crime scene late into the night on Thursday.
Police are further investigating the incident. A case for the murder has been registered by the Counter-Terrorism Department on behalf of Azizabad traffic section officer Muhammad Haneef.
Ali's killing is one in a string of murders of policemen in Karachi over the past two months.
