The entry of ‘unnecessary vehicles’ and ‘irrelevant people’ will be barred in the red-zone of the capital from the evening of August 13 and all day on August 14 apart from a bar on one-wheeling in the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi on Independence Day.
This was directed as police in the two neighbouring cities prepared traffic plans for Independence Day to be celebrated on August 14.
In Islamabad, Inspector General (IGP) Aamir Zulfiqar Khan directed the operational and traffic police departments to devise a joint security and traffic plan for the city on Independence Day.
He asked to ban the entry of unnecessary vehicles and irrelevant people in the red zone from the night of August 13 and for the whole day of August 14.
IGP Aamir directed to ensure stringent security arrangements and smooth traffic flow on August 14. Moreover, he said that strict action should be taken against those involved in stunts such as one-wheeling and car racing. Further, fire-crackers will not be allowed and strict legal action will be taken against those involved in such activities.
To ensure security, the IGP directed to deploy additional personnel at shopping malls, markets apart from deputing special squads to ensure smooth flow of traffic besides safety to people. Further, Aamir asked the officers to conduct checking in the city and ensure effective patrolling.
No freedom for one-wheeling
In Rawalpindi, the City Traffic Police (CTP) has set up six special squads, comprising warden officers, traffic wardens and assistant wardens to crack down on one-wheeling in the city on Independence Day.
A CTP spokesperson said that on the directives of Rawalpindi Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Syed Ali Akbar, special squads have been deployed to stop bikers indulging in one-wheeling.
The CTO directed the traffic wardens to take strict action against such individuals as per the law to avoid a traffic mess and mishaps on August 14.
Moreover, a control room had been set up at the CTO headquarters to monitor the situation. A helpline for Murree had also been set up and can be reached on 1915, 051-9272616 and 051-9269200.
The official added that efforts will be made to control the traffic on the city's roads, particularly in Murree. In this regard, bikers will not be allowed to enter Murree on Independence Day.
Further, special police pickets will also be established on August 14 in different areas to check traffic rules violations particularly one-wheeling, he added. The official clarified that while the activity was being checked by special squads of traffic police deputed on various roads of the city, but now, several other arrangements have also been made to curb the activity.
He added that roads in the beautified areas of the city are being covered as well.
Further, under special arrangements, traffic officials have been deployed at Ayub Park, Murree Road near Underpass, Rawal Road, Sixth Road, Stadium Road and other places, he said. Traffic police officers will arrest anyone found engaged in one-wheeling and send them to jail.
