Six celeb couples who tied the knot in lockdown

With the lockdown being lifted in places, here's a look back at couples that took the leap this year

Entertainment Desk August 11, 2020

Over the years, weddings in Pakistan had become all but a simple affair. So, when the pandemic broke out and over-the-top events spiralled, things invariably bounced back to a somewhat new, albeit old-fashioned, normal.

A couple of months back, The Express Tribune compiled a list of celeb couples who chose to keep things simple and tied the knot in the midst of a lockdown. A few more have joined the roster since, and with the lockdown having been lifted in most places, we decided to look back. Here’s an updated list of couples that took the leap this year.

While this wedding was not exactly simple (Hello, they flew their family and friends out to Abu Dhabi for a destination wedding) it happened at the start of the pandemic so it’s understandable why the couple did not drop their original plans.

After a whirlwind romance for around two years, the gorgeous acting duo tied the knot in March 2020, and this one will surely be one for the books. Not to mention, even if Sajal couldn’t make the celebration that simple, she dialled her look down and kept it simple and old-school on her big day.

Hina Altaf and Aagha Ali

This one came as something of a surprise for fans, even though people had already cracked that the two were dating, mostly because Agha had been in a pretty open and public relationship with Sarah Ali Khan before.

Hina and Aagha sealed the deal on May 23, among what seems like close family. Hina looked radiant clad in a simple nikkah outfit while Agha pulled off his usual sharp looks in a cream sherwani waistcoat.

According to the lovebirds, they couldn’t spend much time apart in the lockdown and thus, realised that they wanted to get married! Talk about love in the time of corona!

Faryal Mehmood and Daniyal Raheal

Faryal Mehmood and Daniyal Raheal, son of Simi Raheal, had already been tied to each other for two years before they decided to take the big step this May.

Travelling by road from Karachi to Lahore to be with their families on their big day, the two kept the ceremony simple and traditional, with Daniyal’s family in attendance and Faryal’s family on video call all the way from the US.

Sadaf Kanwal and Shahroz Sabzwari

Perhaps the most controversial union in this list and a shocker to say the least! Rumours about the two’s courtship had been doing the rounds since December 2019 but were vehemently denied in light of Shahroz’s ongoing divorce proceedings with Syra Yousuf.

After it was finalised in February, it seems like Sadaf and the Chain Aaye Na found solace in each other and what’s better than finding a partner in your friend?

Sarah Khan and Falak Shabbir

When Sarah Khan took to Instagram to share that she had “said yes!” social media went into a meltdown. And understandably so. The gorgeous actor got married just a couple of days after announcing her engagement to singer Falak Shabbir on July 15.

The two sent fans reeling in awe as photos of their wedding went viral on social media. Not to mention, Falak’s palpable love for Sarah was felt by everyone. Remember how he was serenading his bride at their wedding? Truly heart-warming.

Aamina Sheikh and Omar Farooqui

Aamina Sheikh’s announcement came as a welcome surprise for fans and followers when she posted a picture of wedding rings on her Instagram on August 8. She then followed that up with pictures of her big day, complete with her five-year-old in tow!

The actor tied the knot with Omar Farooqui, both keeping it minimal and timeless in white. This is Aamina’s second marriage; she was previously married to actor Mohib Mirza and shares daughter Meissa with him.
