The Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) has started the process for regularising scores of temporary employees, advertising more than 200 vacancies as part of the second phase of the plan.
Sources in varsity said that more than 250 temporary workers had been hired in various departments by the university for 59 days as per the need and requirements. The renewal of these appointments depends on their further need and requisition from the concerned departments.
Refuting rumours about terminating these employees, the varsity said that it has instead created an opportunity for these temporary employees to get regularized by advertising vacant posts.
They added that the process of regularising temporary employees first began two years ago on the recommendations of AIOU’s executive council.
In the first phase, the services of more than 200 employees had been regularized. In the second phase, the university has advertised around 230 posts for employees in basic pay scale (BPS) grade two to five.

Further, they said that university plans to advertise a further 100 posts in BPS-5 to BPS-15 in the next phase soon.
A spokesperson for AIOU, meanwhile, said that the university always considered its temporary employees to be valuable assets as they offered a pool of trained and experienced workers.
The official added that the varsity wanted to induct them as regular employees through a transparent, equity-based fair process as per the directions of the executive council.
The vice-chancellor reiterates his firm resolve towards employees’ welfare which is evident from the transparent, merit-based, and fair completion of the first phase in less than two years, the spokesperson said, adding that the second phase will be expedited.
