RDA to launch Miyawaki urban forest

The district administration will launch a plantation drive

RAWALPINDI:

The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) will set up an urban forest in the Rialto Park on Murree Road to improve the green cover in the city. The city will also plant 25,000 saplings in a drive that starts tomorrow (August 9).

In a statement on Friday, RDA Chairman Tariq Murtaza said that this will be the first urban forest to be set up in the city which will enable citizens to breathe in a clean environment. “Environmental pollution will be reduced and the natural and atmospheric environment will be available to residents,“ he said, adding that he will personally fund it.

Separately, on the directives of Punjab government, the district administration will launch a plantation drive on Sunday, to plant 25,000 saplings.

In a meeting presided by Rawalpindi Deputy Commissioner Captain (R) Anwarul Haq, it was disclosed that a special mechanism has been set up to take care of trees planted during the campaign.
