In an operation against drug peddlers, bootleggers, Proclaimed Offenders (POs) and other street criminals, the Saddar police in Rawalpindi apprehended 316 people in July.
A police spokesperson said that of those held, 112 were held for carrying illegal or unlicenced weapons, 82 for peddling drug and bootlegging.
Under the supervision of SP Ziaud Din Ahmed, the Saddar police raided suspected hideouts of criminals in different areas of the division. He added that 116 cases had been registered against 112 people for carrying illegal weapons while they recovered eight Kalashnikov, 17 guns, 94 pistols, a carbine, a Mauser and three daggers.
The Saddar division police also registered cases against 87 suspected drug peddlers and bootleggers, arresting 82 of them. Moreover, the police seized over 54 kilogrammes of hashish, 1.3 kgs of heroin and 1,508 litres of liquor last month.
The police spokesperson further said that three FIRs were registered against 17 suspected gamblers. Police also recovered stake money worth Rs10.844 million, six motorbikes, a Suzuki van, mobile phones and other items from their possession. The Rawal division police apprehend eight shopkeepers for defying the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) issued against the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) and booked them in five cases.
