To ensure the smooth and efficient execution of two major projects in the federal capital, its apex civic authority has decided to hire consultants.
The Capital Development Authority (CDA) on Tuesday said that it will hire the consultant for two projects. This includes the development of parking plazas in the city and a project to clean massive storm drains apart from building other rainwater facilities in the city.
In a high-level meeting at the CDA headquarters on Tuesday, the civic authority’s management decided to set up a special unit called the Urban Infrastructure Directorate.
This unit will liaise between the Islamabad Metropolitan Corporation and other organizations, including the CDA, for the construction of these projects.
The consultants will be required to come up with financial models for these projects within three months.
Officials said that there is a need to build parking facilities in the city. The traffic in the city has increased considerably in recent years, reflecting an increase in Islamabad’s population which has swelled from 805,235 in 1998 to 2.01 million in 2017.
Similarly, the CDA management has decided to improve rainwater storage facilities across the city. Rainwater in is normally wasted, but the initiative plans to help recharge groundwater in the city.
