LAHORE:

Lahore High Court’s Chief Justice Muhammad Qasim Khan has given 10 days to the capital city police officer (CCPO) of Lahore for considering the candidates who were on the waiting list of applicants before recent recruitment of constables.

The chief justice was hearing a petition challenging the recruitment of police officials.

He came down hard on the police authorities over violation of rules.

“People are committing suicides owing to unemployment but the Punjab Police is not ready to take the matter seriously, ” the CJ remarked.

He said it was astonishing that the department had ignored its own rules as the candidates in the waiting list should be preferred for recruitment. The authorities could not be allowed to work in accordance with their wishes, the chief justice remarked and added, “There are rules, which are to be followed.”

The judge asked in which districts the candidates falling in the waiting list had not been considered. A law officer informed the court that the candidates falling in waiting list from Lahore, Sheikhupura and Okara had not been considered for appointment.
