Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput's mental health has became the subject of debate in the past few weeks. His family and ex have questioned the popularly held beleif that the late actor was suffering through depression with some even doubting suicide as a cause of his death.
The latest development in the case is the late actor former therapist Susan Walker claiming that he was indeed going through a mental illness, biopolar disorder to be exact, reported Pinkvilla. In a statement shared on social media, Walker talked about how the rise in conspiracy theories and misinformation social media, she had felt the need to make a statement publicly.
According to Walker, biopolar disorder had led to him experiencing depression and hypomania. Additionally, Walker also came in support of the actor's girlfriend Rhea Chakraborty who has been embroiled in a controversy after Sushant's father had registered a FIR against her.
Walker and the journalist who was interviewing her have subsequently received backlash on social media, for revealing confidential information around Sushant. In a lengty blog post, Sushant's brother-in-law Vishal Kirti slamed Walker for her actions while also questioning her claims, reported Hindustan Times.
“Diagnosing mental disorders is an arduous task and diagnosing someone Bipolar (I or II) is even more so. Not only do you have to observe the person very closely, but you also have to observe them over long periods of time (it takes six years on average to diagnose after the onset of symptoms)," he said.
Adding on, Vishal said that not only the therapist had the ‘audacity to disclose this information in the public domain’ but also made it clear in her statement that the treatment was sought by Rhea and not Sushant himself. “Prior to October/November 2019 (and certainly prior to meeting Rhea), as far as I know, no one who has lived with Sushant has ever complained about his mental health, nor has Sushant himself,” he said.
He further lashed out at Rhea for allegedly gaslighting Sushant. “Sushant seemed to have suffered gaslighting at the hands of Rhea, based on the information in the public domain. Antisocial Personality Disorder is the more technical term for sociopathy/psychopathy and could be potentially diagnosed for Rhea (I am not diagnosing, only suggesting). Based on what happened, gaslighting seems to fit the bill, in addition to other methods of confinement and control," he said.
