ISLAMABAD:

Former president Asif Ali Zardari on Thursday challenged his indictment in the reference over the Thatta water supply contracts relating to the fake accounts case in the accountability court.

The lawyers of the former president, Farooq H Naek and Asad Abbasi appeared before the accountability court and filed a petition, requesting that the indictment of Zardari be stopped and the reference be quashed.

The court issued notice to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) for its reply to the former president’s petition. The accountability court had already ordered video link arrangements for Zardari’s indictment.

Tosha Khana reference

Meanwhile, Accountability court judge Asghar Ali sought record of Zardari’s vehicles, whose ownership had been frozen in the Tosha Khana reference.

During the hearing, the NAB prosecutor told the court that bureau had decided to seize the vehicles of Zardari and former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and freeze the ownership of three vehicles – two BMWs and a Lexus – of the former president.

The NAB had also frozen the ownership of a Mercedes seized from Nawaz Sharif. The court sought from the NAB records of all those vehicles and directed the NAB investigating officer to submit the records on August 5.
