Swat varsity’s women campus to be set up

The campus will be established in Barikot tehsil of the district

To promote higher education in the province for women, the provincial government has decided to build a campus for women of the University of Swat.

The campus will be established in Barikot tehsil of the district.

This was disclosed by Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Minister for Housing Dr Amjad Ali during a meeting with University of Swat (UoS) Registrar Mehboob Rehman in the provincial capital on Monday.

Dr Ali said work on the new campus, spread over 200 Kanals of land in Barikot, will begin soon. He added that the campus will cost Rs0.89 billion.

The minister hoped that the establishment of the campus will help promote higher education amongst women of the district. It will also help generate employment opportunities and promote local businesses in the area.

The provincial minister added the campus would be established in collaboration with the federal government and that funds for the project have already been secured.

The provincial government has also planned to set up a campus of the University of Engineering and Technology in the same tehsil, spread over 50 kanals of land.

To acquire land for the project, a summary will soon be forward to the Senior Member of the Board of Revenue (SMBR) for approval, he added.

Once the land has been acquired, construction on the campus will begin. The UoS Registrar Mehboob Rehman said the project is of immense importance for promotion of education in Swat adjacent districts.
