Humayun Saeed has been a fixture on Pakistani TV screens for more than two decades now, with a myriad of big projects under his belt. From hit dramas to chart busting films, he’s done it all and has still, somehow, managed to look like he hasn’t aged a day!
On the occasion of his 50th birthday, we’ve put together a list of four recent career-defining performances by the actor that made us love him all the more. Happy birthday, Humayun!
‘Jawani Phir Nahi Ani’ (2015)
Heralding what has become Pakistan’s most successful film franchise, this venture held up by an ensemble cast essentially ushered in a new era for cinema in Pakistan. While efforts were being made prior to this as well, the turnout for JPNA meant that later films could attempt to enjoy the same, and did!
Humayun not only acted but also co-produced this comedy under his banner, Six Sigma Plus. He even bagged the Best Actor award for his performance as Shehryar, aka Sherry. Need we say more?
‘Dil Lagi’ (2016)
Directed by Nadeem Baig, this serial breathed fresh air into Humayun’s TV persona. Featuring Mehwish Hayat and him in lead roles as Anmol and Mohid respectively, the serial also highlighted the two’s crackling on-screen chemistry. The story revolved around their feud as Mohid works for moneylender Kifayat Ali to make life hell for Anmol and her family. Humayun’s performance as Mohid was surely one be lauded!
‘Punjab Nahi Jaungi’ (2017)
A classic rom-com, this film saw Humayun essay the character of a Punjabi landowner Fawad Khagga who falls in hopeless love with Amal (Mehwish Hayat). The duo’s chemistry set in place in 2016’s Dil Lagi was cemented here. In fact, it shattered JPNA’s record to become the highest-grossing Pakistani film at the time! (Until Humayun’s JPNA 2 broke it again.)
Punjab Nahi Jaungi was also released under Six Sigma Plus, meaning that he had not only proven to be a class actor but also an ace producer!
‘Meray Paas Tum Ho’ (2019)
Perhaps the biggest television hit in recent times, despite all its shortcomings, this show featured Humayun as lovelorn Danish, who is willing to do anything to appease his thankless wife Mehwish (Ayeza Khan). It serial routinely garnered record TRP’s and Humayun’s performance as a heartbroken man earned him great acclaim from viewers and industry peers alike, making him the leading man in Pakistani entertainment if there ever was any doubt left.
