RAWALPINDI:

A heavy cloudburst in Rawalpindi on Saturday morning flooded many low-lying parts of the city.

The rain spell started at around 7am on Saturday and continued for some 45-minutes. However, the weather turned pleasant after the heavy showers, providing respite from the sweltering heat which has been beating down on the city for the past couple of days.

The rain, however, flooded key thoroughfares including Murree Road due to choked drains. Moreover, residents of Dhoke Kala Khan had to bail out rainwater which had entered their houses.

Residents complained that this is a cycle which repeats every time there are moderate rains in the city, adding that the district administration lends a deaf ear to their complaints.

Further, the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) teams remained alert during the rain spell. A draining operation was monitored by the WASA Managing Director (MD) Raja Shaukat. The official said that their teams and machinery are in the field working to ease the difficulties of the public.

Meanwhile, the Nullah Leh flood forecast system said that the basin had received mean rainfall of around 18.77 millimetres. The highest rainfall was recorded by RAMC with 38mm, followed by PMD with 37mm, Chaklala with 27mm, Golra with 15mm, Bokra with 14mm, and Saidpur with 10mm of rain.
