Two passengers were arrested by Customs officials for allegedly attempting to smuggle electronics through the green channel at Jinnah International Airport on Friday.
Customs officials had reportedly asked Muhammad Atiq and Muhammad Arif whether they had been carrying any items to which duty may apply when they landed in Karachi from Dubai. The suspects, however, denied having any such items in their possession.
When the officials searched their luggage, they found expensive mobile phones, accessories, tablets, watches, laptops, other gadgets and perfumes.
In their statement, the suspects reportedly said that a resident of Karachi, Arsalan Qureshi, had asked them to bring the items to the city in exchange for two free return tickets. They further stated that an unidentified man gave them the items at Dubai International Airport, informing them that Qureshi and two others would receive them in Karachi.
