ISLAMABAD:

The European Union on Tuesday extended support to the country in its green initiatives and measures to help curb the spread of the novel coronavirus (Covid-19).

This was stated by a European Union delegation (EU), led by EU Minister and Deputy Head of Mission Anne Marchal as they called on the Adviser to the Prime Minister on Climate Change Malik Amin Aslam. Both sides discussed various matters of bilateral collaboration and cooperation-related opportunities in the fields of green economic recovery.

“We are looking forward to contributing with our role through [sharing] our experiences in overall post-Covid-19 green recovery through enhanced investment in green sectors including forestry environmental protection and climate change resilience through mitigation and adaptation initiatives in the country’s climate-vulnerable socio-economic sectors,” Marchal said.

Aslam welcomed the interests of the European Union and its offer to join the government’s green and clean initiatives. “We are happy to hear that the EU is looking towards opportunities for collaboration and cooperation for jointly working and sharing its experiences regarding environmental conservation, water management, disaster risk management and climate resilient-agriculture,” Aslam told the EU Mission’s deputy head in Pakistan.

“We welcome any support and collaboration at any scale between Pakistan and EU bloc and with its member countries,” he hoped.
