Rain causes gridlocks in many areas

RAWALPINDI:

The weather turned pleasant in Rawalpindi and Islamabad after a rain on Tuesday morning.

However, the light but persistent downpour that lasted for a couple of hours caused gridlocks on major thoroughfares. Rawat Road, Katcheri Road, IJP Road, Jhelum Road and the Soan Bridge area were inundated by rainwater at many places.

A number of low-lying areas in Rawalpindi were flooded due to overflowing sewers causing troubles for the residents and the commuters alike.

Pakistan may receive 10% extra rain this year

The twin cities continued to receive intermittent rainfall during the spell of monsoon season that began from Monday midnight and continued late till Tuesday evening.

Officials of the Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa), Rawalpindi Cantonment Board (RCB) and Chaklala Cantonment Board besides district management teams remained on high alert and monitored constantly to keep the public informed about the condition of the rainfall.

According to meteorological department Chaklala received 27 millimetres (mm) of rain, Shamsabad 8mm and Sector H-8 in Islamabad got 15mm of rain. The heaviest downpour lasted for over an hour from 7am-8:15 am, the meteorological department shared.
