The body of an unidentified 14-year-old girl was recovered from Lohar Bari Doab Canal in Okara on Monday.
Passers-by reportedly spotted the body of the teenage girl floating in the Lower Bari Doab Canal near Chak No 43-3R. They reported the incident to Rescue 1122 and police. A Rescue 1122 team pulled out the girl's body from the canal and handed it over to the police.
Police took the body into custody and shifted it to Okara District Headquarters Hospital for postmortem.
Police suspect the body was thrown into the canal after the girl was killed by unknown assailants.
The police began searching for the girl's heirs. Announcements were also being made in villages in the area in this regard. However, the details of the incident as well as cause of death would be ascertained after the postmortem report and further investigation.
Several unidentified bodies have been found in the past in canals passing through the district. The canals pass through several districts. Therefore, it is difficult to find out where the bodies came from and what happened to the victims before they breathed their last.
