Ayesha is a make-up influencer, who was born in Pakistan and brought up in Oman. Ayesha is on a mission to spread positivity and encourage others to be confident in their own skin. She shares with us her journey of embracing her acne, her passion for make-up, and how she overcame the hate and negativity and found self-love.

How did you start your journey as a make-up influencer?

My passion towards make-up started back when I was almost 17 years old. Being Middle-Eastern and South Asian, we are not allowed to use make-up until a certain age but my parents were always supportive of me. I started practicing make-up (on myself) at the age of 17. While I was practicing make-up, I started a very successful make-up fan page in 2018 which later on inspired me to create my own page which was a total success. My posts blew up overnight and I started gaining tonnes of followers which inspired me to never give up no matter what.

What are some of the challenges you faced in your journey as a make-up influencer and how did you overcome those?

While starting my own page I knew that this journey could bring so much negativity in my life but I never knew what was ahead of me. I was on a break from social media when my hormonal acne developed last year! I made a comeback with a new page (old account got hacked) and I started to get so much hate for just the way my skin looked. Hate and negativity never bothered me because I always try to be positive no matter what but there were days where I was depressed and had anxiety attacks which made me miserable but I kept telling myself to never give up and do what I love. This kept me going and here I am today blessed with so many positive thoughts. I would like to add that the thing that really helped me overcome this obstacle was finally believing in the reality, where with every 100 positive people come 10 negative ones.

Your favourite beauty hack?

My current favourite beauty hack is the eyelash hack to achieve a foxy eye look.

Your top three go-to make-up products?

My top three go to make-up products are:

1. Anastasia Beverly Hills luminous foundation.

2. FentyBeauty loose setting powder.

3. Kylie Cosmetics liquid lipstick in Victoria.

What are your top three skincare products?

My top three skin products would be:

1. ColourPop seriously good serums.

2. CeraVe moisturising lotion.

3. Neutrogena hydro boost gel-cream.

With being in public light, how do you handle bullying and other negativity?

Well I always try to be positive and keep myself calm. I also try to ignore the hate and negativity and the best way to reply to such comments is to be respectful and kind. Yes! You heard it right, always be kind and respectful which shows them how much of a control you have over your emotions and there is nothing that is going to let you down.

What’s your take on self- love and accepting/loving yourself as you are?

As I said before, everyone is beautiful in their own ways and stuff like acne, over or under weight, being tall or short does not have control over your or my beauty. Always love and accept the way you are and practice some positive thoughts because positivity is key to everything.

What advice would you give to people struggling with skin or body image issues?

I would say that be positive no matter what, treat and love yourself like no one does and you should always remember that, “Everyone is beautiful in their own way! Race, colour, body and weight doesn’t define who you are!”

Dealing with skin problems, what advice and tips would you give to others?

I would recommend to work on your mental health because skin issues can take a serious toll on your mental health which leads to other issues. And the other right thing to do is to take a break from social media and remember that very thing you see on social media isn’t real!!

What’s next for Ayesha Amir?

Well.. I am just waiting to graduate from university next fall so I can focus on my YouTube channel and give my 100% to it.
