The arrival of coronavirus pandemic has upended Pakistanis’ grocery habits, causing them into making numerous online purchases from the comfort of their homes and limiting their trips to the grocery store, as the country steps into lockdown. Talking about grocery stores, a newly launched online grocery platform Erocery has been in the news lately for all the good reasons.

The online startup Erocery, has been successfully delivering quality grocery products in the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad amidst the Covid-19 pandemic. Due to its reasonable prices, same day delivery option and quality products, the new eCommerce platform has garnered favourable reviews from its customers just after three months of its launch.

Ensuring that the groceries delivered are fresh and nutritious, Erocery brings everyday staples, such as pulses, eggs & dairy products directly from farmers/growers to customers. Erocery’s founder, Dr Shakil Muhammad (Founder, Erocery and RNS Solutions) explained, “Our main concern during the launch of Erocery was to guarantee clean, quality and fresh products for our customers as we are in the middle of a pandemic. The disruptive supply chain for food products has been established joining the local food farms to Erocery warehouse. People involved in the supply chain have been instructed to follow strict health SOPs released by the government for the Covid-19 outbreak”.

 

Currently, the online eCommerce portal is only providing packed goods such as, snacks, sauces, oil, ghee and beverages from the brands that have been approved by the Punjab Food Authority (PFA). Erocery is remarkably delivering grocery items within three hours after order confirmation. Moreover, it accepts COD, Jazz Cash, Credit/ Debit Card and Easypaisa. Last, but not the least it is also providing a plethora of discounted deals for monthly grocery shopping.

Since Eid al- Adha is approaching soon, Erocery decided to expand its services by launching online animal and Kassab booking (slaughter) services. At a 25% advanced booking, the customers will be provided with an opportunity to visit the farms via an online video. They also have an option to physically visit the animal farms with a pre-booked time, while following the SOPs set by the government in the wake of Covid-19. Once the payment has been received, the booked animal/s will be delivered at the customer’s desired date and time without any additional charges. Kassab (slaughter) booking is available on customer site/home or at Erocery’s slaughterhouse.

Earlier in March this year, Erocery received a pre-seed investment of $500,000 from RNS Solutions and Local Investors. Erocery platform is a headless & data driven eCommerce platform powered with PWA and has been developed by RNS Solutions. It complies with GDPR and is powered with elastic search and GraphQL APIs. The online food retailer aims to open source SDK by the end of 2020 to flourish the eCommerce industry. The Erocery’s seed fund round is expected to launch in late September this year where it is hoping to open up for the 'seed round' in order to expand its service throughout Pakistan.
