IMC plans to set up four cattle markets

Earlier lone market of Sector I-12 served people on Eidul Azha

The Islamabad Metropolitan Corporation (IMC) has decided to setup four cattle markets at different locations in the outskirts of the federal capital ahead of Eidul Azha.

The cattle markets would be established at Bhara Kahu, Taramri Chowk, Rawat and Tarnol with the implementation of the standard operating procedures (SOPs) issued by the district administration in wake of coronavirus and Congo fever spread, a senior official in IMC said on Wednesday.

Ministry of Interior had endorsed the proposal of the IMC chief municipal officer to establish the cattle markets through open auction in the rural areas of Islamabad following the recommendations of National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) to contain the spread of the coronavirus.

Chief Metropolitan Officer Syeda Shafaq Hashmi said that it was responsibility of IMC to provide opportunity to citizens of Islamabad to perform their religious duties along with safety measures. All precautions would be taken at cattle markets and citizens are requested not to bring elderly and children there, she added.

This year the city managers were setting up around four cattle markets, whereas in the past Sector I-12 was the sole place for the purpose where around five million people visited before Eidul Azha to purchase sacrificial animals.
