‘SBCA official took bribe to allow illegal construction’

Police submitted to a local court the challan of Rizvia building collapse on Tuesday. According to the challan, a Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) official took bribe for allowing the illegal construction of the building in Liaqauatabad.

The challan states that SBCA official Latafat Mirza, deputed in Liaquatabad, allegedly collects bribes to allow illegal construction, adding that SBCA deputy director Imran Sheikh signed the official permission letter for the construction of a three-storey building, but later permitted the construction of four more floors in exchange for Rs150,000.

The challan also discloses that SBCA Katchi Abadi deputy director, SBCA Dangerous Buildings committee director, K-Electric, the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board, as well as other relevant authorities have not responded to a letter written to them regarding an inquiry about the illegitimacy of the building plan.
