ISLAMABAD:
The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Monday submitted its reply on an application to freeze former president Asif Zardari Clifton Karachi’s residence in the fake accounts case being heard in an accountability court.
The anti-graft watchdog claimed that it had solid evidence that Zardari had constructed his residence in Clifton Karachi with the ill-gotten money.
It said that Rs150 million had been paid from the former president’s stenographer’s account for the purchase of the house.
“Asif Zardari failed to provide any evidence that he purchased the Clifton Karachi residence himself,” the NAB said.
The bureau further said that stenographer Mushtaq had accompanied the former president on 104 foreign visits.
It further said that the temporary address of Zardari and Mushtaq was House number 8, F-8, Islamabad.
The NAB stated that it had provided a questionnaire regarding the Clifton Karachi residence to Zardari but the PPP co-chairman did not submit a reply on it.
The court was informed that Mushtaq escaped when he was approached by the bureau for interrogation.
The anti-corruption watchdog requested the court to freeze the former president’s Clifton Karachi residence.
